Top 5 churches in Lima

One of the main issues for bride and groom getting married abroad is choosing the perfect church for their wedding ceremony in Peru. Before picking the right church they will have to consider different elements:

  • Location
  • Appearance
  • Cost
  • Distance from reception venue.

SAN FRANCISCO CHURCH

Since I generally receive so many requests of information about churches in Lima I would like to share with you some information I collected during these years working as wedding planner. I believe this post will be extremely useful if you are in the process of selecting the church for your wedding ceremony in Lima. Here my top four!

  1. SAN FRANCISCO CHURCH

This church is located in the historical center of the capital nearby the main square (Plaza de Armas). The church structure is a great example of Spanish baroque architecture, which you can feel from the beautiful façade. It is not easy to get a sport to officiate a wedding in this church since once the time schedule is open for booking there are many requests and you might need to go there and make your queue early in the morning to get a specific time and a specific day. Otherwise you will have to accept the availability they have left. There is a high demand for this church, since it is very traditional and a beautiful place to get married. The church is open from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, you can bring a chorus or a string quartet but they need to play religious music at least for the mass, no religious music is allowed for the bride’s entrance and for the exit. Price to get married in this church is SOL 1000.00 as for 2016, price might have changed since then. You need to make an initial payment of SOL 300.00 to book the date and time and the final payment needs to be made at least three months before your wedding.

NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FATIMA CHURCH

  1. NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FATIMA CHURCH

This nice church is located in the heart of Miraflores district, along Lima’s Malecon. This is a big building and usually is used for big wedding, approximately 150-250 people attending, since it is hard to fill up all the space. The façade of the building is of a clear cream color and once you get in you will be amazed by the spacious and airy naves.  A big pro of choosing this church is that it is located nearby a beautiful park, where you can go to take picture before or after the ceremony. I can guarantee that the photos at sunset in the park with the ocean view are beautiful! Also, this church is conveniently located in the heart of Miraflores, in case you choose to have the reception in this district is a good choice. Price to get married in this church is SOL 1600.00 if you want to rent the parish hall for a small refreshment and SOL 1450.00 without the parish hall as for 2016, prices might have changed since then. You need to make an initial payment of SOL 1050.00 for the church and the parish hall and SOL 850.00 if you choose only the church to book the date and time. Price includes background music, flower arrangements in the altar and the carpet.

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING

A main element you should consider before picking your wedding bouquet is the style of your wedding celebration: will it be romantic, bohemian, rustic, classic? For example if you choose a rustic wedding, the perfect bouquet must include colorful wildflowers and twine, if you choose a romantic wedding, you can use white and light pink roses and for a bohemian wedding you can use an eye-catching bouquet with field flowers, feathers, leaves, branches and spikes.

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING 2

Another tip to picking the bouquet is the height of the bride; you don’t need to use a big or heavy bouquet if you are not tall, try to find a bouquet size according to your height.

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING 3

The way you going to carry the bouquet, the size and shape are very relevant, we can choose between classic bouquets, cascade bouquet, round bouquet, posy, etc. for example if you want to take it very relaxed  you can chose a classic or posy bouquet.

You need to know that the bouquet is one of the most important accessories for your wedding, so be sure to have everything quite ready before picking the flowers for your bouquet because this needs to be in line with all the other elements of our wedding (dress, decoration, colorpalette, centerpiece, etc.)

  1. Bride and groom cannot see each other before the wedding! This is a classic superstition. Bride and groom can see each other only before the midnight of the wedding day; otherwise you have to wait until you are at the altar.
  2. The groom cannot see the bride’s wedding dress before the ceremony, this means very bad luck! So you brides to be, do not allow your future husband into your room the night before your wedding or in case he is around and you cannot avoid it hide your wedding dress somewhere else safe (your closet if it fits or somebody else’s room).
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 2
  3. On the wedding day the bride must have something old, something new and something borrowed. Something old symbolizes the past and the importance of bride’s previous life; something new symbolizes the future and the new married life ahead; finally something borrowed would ideally be from a family member or a close friend, someone who has a real meaning for the bride. Something borrowed symbolizes that loved people are always with us, even when we start a new phase of our life.
  4. There is also another theory according to which the bride needs to wear something blue on the wedding day. This could be an invisible blue ribbon on bride’s bra, a bracelet with blue details, but it is very common that the bride wear a blue garter under the wedding dress. The blue symbolizes bride’s sincerity and purity.
  5. The bride cannot look herself in the mirror before going to the ceremony, in case she cannot avoid doing so she needs to take off a shoe or an earring or some other accessories.

  6. If it rains on your wedding day do not panic! In many cultures there are beliefs that states that if it rains on your wedding day this will bring your marriage good luck! This is due to the fact that a wet knot is more difficult to untie than a dry one; that is why you will have a longer and happier marriage than ever!
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 4
  7. While going to the ceremony venue the bride must not cross a nun or a monk’s path, this can bring you very bad luck!
  8. During the ceremony keep an eye on your wedding rings! It is extremely important that they do not fall on the ground during the wedding ceremony. In case this happens you must have the priest or your officiant to pick them up. Do not pick them up yourself!
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 5
  9. Break a glass once married! According to this belief you will have many happy years of marriage as the pieces the glass breaks into.
  10. There are different theories on the best day of the week to get married. Usually it is known that you should not get married on Tuesday or Friday. Tuesday is the day of Mars, the god of the war so it is obvious that when you are starting a marriage you want to avoid any kind of fight. And Friday is known as the day of the birth of the evil spirits, so you might want to avoid this day too. But it is actually relative, since in some country as Norway, they believe that Friday is an excellent day to get married because is the day of Venus, the God of love. Saturday is the perfect day to get married according to many cultures, which is why the majority of the weddings take place on this day.shutterstock_127839878 (1)

There are many other beliefs and superstitions related to the wedding day, this is a list of the ones I have heard many times, also from my couples. If you know more wedding superstitions it would be great if you could share them in the comments!

Four Ways to Prepare your Guests for a Peru Destination Wedding

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

If you decided to get married in a remote, wild and stunning place far away from home the first thing you need to make sure of is to prepare your guests for your destination wedding! So in this article I want to share with you some useful tips on how to prepare them, I am especially referring to your direct family and close friends. There is always a bit of “fear” of the unknown that you should deal with, when you announce your destination wedding in a country such as Peru. Many of your guests might not be expert travelers or might not know Peru at all, except for Machu Picchu of course. Some of your guests are not really into traveling, while some others might be extremely excited by the idea of discovering a new place, it really depends. Obviously this is also related to the average age of your guests; if you are dealing with young guests in their thirties for example they would be most likely thrilled by the idea of a new place to discover, since they have an inclination to travel abroad and they are used to. If you are dealing with older people, the excitement for a trip abroad may vary; there would be a bunch of people eager to a new experience and some other who are not so excited by the idea. To deal with this issue here some tips to consider before sending out your wedding invitations:

  1. Talk to your direct family and close friends before sending the invitation. Avoiding the surprise effect could be a good advantage for you, since they will have time to think about the idea and to process it. This is also a way for you to make sure that they are able to attend your wedding and they will understand how important their presence is to you for your special day. They will understand that it is sooooo important that you are also eager to sacrifice your venue and location idea for them to be able to attend.GUESTS FOR A PERU DESTINATION WEDDING 1
  2. Send your invitation in advance: once your family and close friends know about your decision it is time to send the invitation to all the guests on your lists. It is essential to send the invitations out at least 8-10 months in advance, remember that this is not a classic wedding celebration, this is a destination wedding and people need to start planning in advance. They need to check their finance first and see if they are able to attend or if they need to start saving money for a couple of months, they need to start checking their flights and plan everything accordingly. So send the invitation quite in advance!GUESTS FOR A PERU DESTINATION WEDDING 2
  3. Create a website for your wedding celebration: in my opinion this is mandatory! Your guests will be lost at the beginning so a website is a very useful tool to share information efficiently. It is important that you include there all the information that they need such as: international flights, airport pick-up options, accommodation options (Hostal, Hotels, private houses, etc.), activities, restaurants recommendations, tours options and other travel tips. Since this is a destination wedding you might want to create a specific itinerary for your guests, including some sort of tours, activities, parties, dinners, etc. So all this must be included on your website. Remember to constantly update your website and be in touch with your guests if they have questions and need advices.GUESTS FOR A PERU DESTINATION WEDDING 4
  4. Welcome your guests: they will have to make travel arrangements to attend your special day, they will have to spend money and you have to show them that you really value that. It is a nice way to welcome them properly. For instance you can prepare special welcome bags that they will find in their hotel room on arrival. You can fill this bag with local products, for example in Peru you can include a bottle of Pisco, Peruvian “canchita” (corn), Peruvian coffee and much more. I have already talked about welcome bags here. Other way to welcome them is to organize a welcome dinner or a welcome cocktail in a special place, which will give your guests time to socialize and relax after their trip.

GUESTS FOR A PERU DESTINATION WEDDING 5

What you should always keep in mind is that this is not a classic wedding, this is a destination wedding and it is important to consider it this way; your guests will need advices and information on the country and you are the host here and you need to answer them. I always suggest my couples to work with us also for the travel arrangements part, since this would avoid a lot of stress for them; guests could bombard you with questions of any kind which sometimes you are not even able to answer. So it is always better to rely on professional travel experts, who will make your wedding planning process and your entire life much easier before your wedding day.

Glamour Black and Gold Color Palette

Glamour black and gold color palette 2

The combination of black with golden tones is perfect if you want a glamorous and luxurious wedding celebration.

The details of the cards, decoration, and rings in this wedding play an important role and give an interesting contrast with the environment of the ballroom.

Bride’s shoes are so glamorous; they are gold and have beautiful detail at the back, a precious ornament with shiny stones. The gold color comes back in the tie and the pocket-handkerchief of the groomsmen and the beautiful and elegant bridesmaids’ dresses. This color palette was chosen for a New Year’s Eve wedding and the effect was amazing.

Bridal Makeup Trends for 2017-2018

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

Nowadays brides are edgier when it comes to makeup. For nighttime weddings the trend is the smokey eyes that can be made in different tones, such as gold, pink, copper, bronze or nude; the pink tones are the most used ones lately. We do not only use a range of cool tones or warm ones, but currently there is a tendency to use a combination of cold and warm tones, for example we can use grey and silver mixed with a chocolate tone for the crease to give warmth to the look. A good pair of false lashes, individuals or strips will complete the look.

Bridal Makeup Trends for 2017-2018 foto1

For day time weddings we can use similar tones or something more fun such as mango or cherry colors, or neutrals, but going softer with the dark tones to limit the dramatic effect of the makeup, which is more suitable for nighttime weddings. At the end, everything depends on what the bride wants, her style and the makeup she is looking for; there are brides who opt for natural makeup looks and others who choose a strong smokey eye. Let’s always keep in mind the style of the wedding: there is a big difference between a midday country wedding and a glamorous night wedding.

Bridal Makeup Trends for 2017-2018 foto 2

As for the skin, I love the strobing technique; an illuminated skin in specific places (the highest points of the face) creates a nice 3D effect, a radiant and fresh look for the bride. Let’s forget the dull, total matte skin with a thick and cakey layer of foundation…now the trend is to have a healthy look, full of life and dimension.

Do not forget the contouring, which properly applied and perfectly blended, sculpts the face and can make you look like you lost 4 Kg. This technique sharpens and defines bride’s features to make her look even more beautiful in photos. You might need to use it moderately, so that it is not too obvious in person.

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

In my opinion foundation with airbrush makeup is a perfect option for brides, either if they prefer light or full coverage. This technique uses an airbrush to apply the makeup as a spray onto the skin (makeup for airbrush is more liquid and is more pigmented); this makeup gives brides an even and smooth porcelain skin that lasts up to 24 hours. It is highly recommended for oily skin due to its long duration and a matte effect. Once applied, we can highlight the areas we prefer. It is noteworthy that this depends on the makeup artist’s technique and the products he/she uses. I always recommend having a makeup dry run or trial before the wedding to make sure that you like it and to avoid last minute issues. Other tip is not to have many hairs on the face because with this technique your face could look fuzzy, so it is always better to schedule your facial waxing before the wedding.

Bridal Makeup Trends for 2017-2018 foto4

As for the lips, matte lipsticks are very in, nude tones, light pink or a bit darker. The good thing is that they last very long and they do not leave the lip mark when you kiss the groom. That’s definitely the best part!

The eyebrows well defined while keeping a natural effect, let’s avoid extremely marked eyebrows since they make you look older and they just don’t look natural.
Moderation is the key.

Five Centerpiece Ideas for your Wedding Reception

featured image

Centerpiece is always going to catch the attention of your guests, so in this article I’m going to give you 5 tips for picking the perfect flower centerpiece for your reception tables.

1Looking at the color tones is essential, especially considering the venue you pick. It could be a beach wedding, an outdoor wedding, a hacienda wedding or a wedding in a Hotel ballroom, and there are color schemes that are more suitable for an outdoor wedding than for a wedding hosted in a hotel ballroom for example, so keep this in mind! You can certainly use light colors for your flower centerpiece for an outdoor or a beach wedding, and intense color tones if your wedding will be hosted in a ballroom.

Five Centerpiece Ideas for your Wedding Reception #2Also remember that the centerpiece plays an important part in your wedding photo session so try to combine it with other colors elements, such as your bouquet, details of your wedding dress, colors of your bridesmaids’dress, etc.

3The type of flowers to choose is also another detail you should consider. First of all you should get information on the types of flowers available on that season and in the country you decided to get married. As for Peru I always suggest to brides to opt for Peruvian flowers, which are exotic and very colorful. Brides usually love them!

Five Centerpiece Ideas for your Wedding Reception #4It´s not necessary to spend a lot of money in flowers, you can have a great result using a lot of greenery for example. This could be a good option if your budget is not so flexible.

Five Centerpiece Ideas for your Wedding Reception #5Flower vase is another element you should select, this choice is important since this complements how your centerpiece will look like. So consider the size, the color, the material and the decoration. All these details need to be in harmony with the venue and the color palette you chose.

Tips for Picking Bridesmaids Dresses

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

Picking the bride’s dress is certainly the biggest choice you have to make for a wedding celebration, but after it you need to start thinking about your bridesmaids dress. The general rule is: buy your bridesmaids dresses after you bought your dress and you selected the venue and the date for your special day. Venue and date are things you should have already set before shopping for your dress as well, as I say here: http://sayidoinperu.com/blog/2017/05/06/tips-for-choosing-the-perfect-wedding-dress/

The aim of this article is to give you some useful tips before picking bridesmaids dress:

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-leigh-luis

  • Look at your dress, the style and the silhouette of your dress, as well as the color, the texture and the details. Your bridesmaids’ dress should definitely fit the vibe of your dress. There should be some sort of connection between the bride’s dress and the one of her bridesmaids. For example if your dress is a boho/vintage style, your bridesmaids cannot ware an eccentric gold and sparkly dress or a very formal dress.

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • As you should have done before choosing your dress, always consider the date and the time of the wedding. A black long dress is not a good pick for a spring or summer midday-wedding celebration, or a hot pink short dress for a fall late night wedding. So always keep in mind that every season has its colors and every time of the day has its dress etiquette as well.
  • Your bridesmaids are your best friends so you should know them very well and know what they like, what they do not like, what they would wear and what they would never wear in their life. So always keep in mind their preferences before making the choice. Also, it would be good if you could include them in some way in the final decision. Flexibility is a great skill you should show here, as well as being understanding.

TIPS FOR PICKING BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES - foto 4

  • I am sure your friends are beautiful to you, but let’s be real, not all your bridesmaids will have the perfect body to fit any kind of dress, there is always a very tall one, or a very short one, one with broad hips or a tiny waste, etc. So pay attention to all these details and try to find the dress that can perfectly fit them all and most importantly that can allow them to feel good in it for that day. Your besties will have to smile a lot and to take thousands of photos with you, so let them be comfortable at your wedding! Something that could be done in this situation is to use the same fabric and tailor different dresses for your bridesmaids depending on their silhouette shapes. You can use a mix of lengths and necklines for example.
  • Try to match the color you are going to pick for bridesmaids dress with your wedding color palette and take also in account that bridesmaids have flower bouquets that need to be matched with the dress. So keep in mind that too!

TIPS FOR PICKING BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES - foto 3

  • Accessories them! You should pick a nice necklace, or a cool pair of shoes that can all wear that day. This will look very nice on your wedding photos.
  • Set the budget with your friends. Do not assume that your bridesmaids have plenty of money to spend on your wedding day and set a specific budget for it and let them agree on the cost.

Latest trends are using different kind of textures in the same colors for bridesmaids that works for informal wedding. For a very formal wedding it is necessary to use the same fabric for bridesmaids dress and in my opinion it would be better to have also the same dress silhouette for all of them. Other trend is to use different shade of specific color, for example shades of blue, or shades of green, this is a very common tendency lately, and I have to admit that the perfect combination of shades can look amazing!
