-Non-traditional wedding cakes: another trend for 2019 wedding is to have cake in line with a country traditions, basically no-wedding cakes. For instance we plan wedding in Peru and it is very common that bride and groom ask for a traditional Peruvian dessert made as wedding cake. This is happening more and more often everywhere. So, get rid of fondant or buttercream, and go for a delicious pavlova, a turron de Doña Pepa cake, a classic sponge cake with whipped cream or an Italian millefoglie.

-One-tier cake: forget the high wedding cakes construction, 3, 4, 5 tiers of cakes. This year will be very common to have simple one-tier minimalist wedding cake. Simple doesn’t mean boring taste or decoration. If you are afraid that a one-tier cake will not be enough to feed all of your wedding guests, you can have a bigger cake inside of the same flavors and taste to slice and serve.

-Alternative cakes: the use of other elements instead of real cakes, such as donuts or macaroons towers are also very common this year. Also the cheese cake is a real trend this year, with the cake tiers made with actual wheels of cheese topped with fresh fruits. The cheese wheels cake is a good option for couples who are not into sweets, served this fromage cake with jams, fresh fruits and nuts.

So after supporting the bride during the wedding planning process, the wedding shower and wedding side-events your job hasn’t finished yet, there is still the big day with the wedding ceremony and the reception to go. So be ready to be there for the bride! Here a list of duties for the wedding day:

  • Try to keep a calm and happy atmosphere among the other bridesmaids and the bride throughout all the day: this is extremely important since your friend will need your emotional support on the wedding day, remeber that she will be nervous!

  • Prepare an emergency kit for the bride; this should include tissues, lipgloss/lipstick and other make up she might need during the day for a touch-upa sewing kit in case of last minute dress retouches or for any wedding dress problems may arise, quicksilvers are also essential in my experience and very practical. Also, include in the kit some basic remedies, such as aspirin. It is important to be prepared!

  • Do not forget the snack and a bottle of champagne for the bride and the other bridesmaids while you’re getting ready. This is very important also for creating a relaxing atmosphere before the ceremony.
  •  Get dress and ready before the bride to help her into the bridal gown. This is one of the nicest moment for the pre-wedding photography session, so make sure that the photographer is there to document this special moment.

  • During the ceremony keep an eye on the bride’s veil, it should be placed in the right way (depending on the veil usually it could go on a side or in the aisle) for the photographer to take great pictures. Seat in the front by the bride’s side and be ready for the procession back out at the end of the ceremony.

  • Be prepared with the wedding party to enter the reception area right before bride and groom once you are announced. So do not get lost during the cocktail hour, nobody wants to look for you in that moment and bride and groom won’t be eager to wait for you!

  • You might need to give a speech after bride and groom arrival at the reception venue, this actually depends on the bride’s choice. So be prepared for it and have your speech ready before the wedding day, considering that this day you will probably have no time to organize your idea and write down something. You can note down on a piece of paper your ideas or on your cellphone, or just memorize it. It is up to you!

  • Try to be the soul of the party and make sure that all the guests are having a great time! So, once the music kicks in, start dancing on the dance floor, so that people will join you and the party will easily start. Also try to mix with the guests and make sure that people are entertained. This will help bride and groom to relax and have fun.

  • Help with any surprise you prepared for the reception and party time, any entertainment show, special dances, flashmob, etc.
  • Help with the newlyweds exit at the end of the reception gathering the guests outside and have the car ready for them to go away.

So bridesmaids to be, we hope that this article can help you have your duties clear and be a real supportive rock for the bride during her special day!

Dessert Table Inspiration for a Rustic Wedding

dessert table wedding 2

I had the pleasure to organize several outdoor rustic weddings in the past years, but I have to admit that the last one really impressed me for decorations and the beautiful dessert table. Ceremony and reception were held in the same venue, a beautiful hacienda nearby Lima, and everything was set outdoor. In this article I want to share with you how we set up the dessert table, the desserts used and the decoration details.

The sweet table was placed in the reception area, alongside the guests’ tables. The table was approximately 8 and half meters long, rigorously made of wood, considering that bride and groom wanted a rustic-style wedding. The table was also enriched with flower decorations, in line with the wedding’s colour-palette: white and navy blue.

At the centre of the long table we placed the beautiful wedding cake, prepared by Dulcefina., one of our wedding cake supplier in Lima. The cake was a 2-layer naked cake decorated with immaculate white roses and foliage. Bride and groom opted for a carrot cake. It was a very elegant cake and it tasted spectacular!

Alongside the carrot cake there were several other desserts on the wooden table, as you can see in the photos. Bride and groom decided to opt for a special mix of tradition Peruvian desserts, such as “Pie de Limon” and “alfajores” and more international ones, such as brownies and cupcakes.

The desserts selected in this occasion were: blueberry and chocochips cupacakes, nuts cupcakes, little lime pies, passion fruit pies, three chocolates mousse shots, cornflour “alfajores”. “Alfajor” is a traditional Peruvian dessert made of two soft biscuits, in this case the pastry chef used cornflour, filled with “dulce de leche”. To respect symmetries and emphasise the beauty of the wedding cake, we placed two chocolate truffles arrangements decorated with Baby’s Breath flowers at the cake’s sides. We placed brownies in glass jars, cupcakes and mini pies in cake stands, all wrapped with flower arrangements.

The result was a spectacular dessert table, finely decorated with a rustic style, with delicious desserts. I think this is the ideal desserts set up for a sophisticated outdoor reception in a Hacienda. Guests loved it!
